Nov 09, 2022 · Metamorphic rocks are created when another type of rock is exposed to extreme levels of heat or pressure. They are formed deep within the earth, although they can come up to the surface eventually. There are many different kinds of metamorphic rocks. They are all unique in where they can be found, how they look, and what they can be used for.. In the large outcrop of metamorphic rocks in Figure below, the rocks’ platy appearance is a result of the process metamorphism. Metamorphism is the addition of heat and/or pressure to existing rocks, which causes them to change physically and/or chemically so that they become a new rock. Metamorphic rocks may change so much that they may not .... Metamorphism is the changing of rocks by heat and pressure. During this process, rocks change either physically and/or chemically. They change so much that they become an entirely new rock. Figure 4.13: The platy layers in this large outcrop of metamorphic rock show the effects of pressure on rocks during metamorphism. Lesson Objectives. On melting at high temperature, metamorphic rocks become magma. Magma is the molten state of metamorphic rocks, that converts due to high temperature. Grade-4- science Match the following: Marble is formed from limestone Gneiss is formed from granite Slate is formed from shale Quartzite is formed from sandstone Grade-4- science. Metamorphic Rocks Rocks are the solid masses that occur naturally. They have a unique combination of minerals, chemicals, textures, shapes, grains, etc. These distinctive characteristics are vital for the categorization of the rocks into Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic rocks.

Interesting Metamorphic Rocks Facts: Marble and slate are examples of metamorphic rock. Metamorphic rock is formed under extreme pressure combined with heat over time. Metamorphic rocks are so called because they always begin as another type of rock. When slate forms, some of the clay from the original rock is replaced by the mineral mica.
